Dark side

"Everyone is a moon, and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody" - Mark Twain

"We are all like the bright moon, we still have our darker side" - Khalil Gibran

During this time of year the days get shorter and the nights get longer. Lately the moon hasn't been rising until twelve or one in the morning. I really like these poems because it describes the moon as an "innocent" person, but like everyone else, we are not perfect and we have our bad (darker) side as well. Having a darker side isn't so bad, it evens out with the good. The moon is a beautiful thing.

The farther side of the moon is called the "dark side" which is never facing the earth, or only on a new moon, and can only be seen from space and the "near side" is always facing Earth. The "dark side" is actually wrong and misleading because people mistakenly think that it never sees any light from the sun. Some people would say that the "darker side" is hiding from the light.

At night we can see the glow from the moon but the light coming from the moon is an illusion. It is reflected light from the sun, bouncing off the moon which acts like a mirror. The amount of light we get from the moon depends on the point of the orbit. In the day time the sky completely washes out the light from the stars but at the night the moon is even more brighter

Moon phases

"Do not swear by the moon, for she changes constantly. Then your love would also change." -William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

The moon changes its location constantly and it also has different phases. The eight phases of the moon are; "New moon, New crescent, First quarter, New gibbous, Full moon, Old gibbous, Last quarter, and Old crescent."  The moon has different phases because it rotates around the earth. The crescents also show how much sunlight is being let through. The different phases of the moon is a symbol of time. Once it's a full moon it goes back to the beginning and starts of as a small crescent again. It does the same thing all the time; Its all about repetition.Time is infinite.

Everyday the moon moves a little bit more than it was the day before. A constant change but so beautiful all the time. Change is something that has to happen and that can not be stopped. Change is good and the moon phases are some examples. I don't really notice the moon phases until a couple of days because no one can really notice a change at first because it takes time.

Love you to the moon and back

I noticed that the moon can be interpreted in many different ways. The moon can be a measure of distance between two different things. There is a popular quote that goes like "I love you to the moon and back" which is a measure of how much love he or she has for someone or something. I really don't understand that quote because shouldn't love be infinite. In reality the Earth and the moon are 238,900 miles apart.  Over the summer that quote was basically on every girl tank top and tee-shirt.

It's crazy how we all look at the same moon but see different things or how we look at the same moon but yet we are in different places. While I'm looking at the moon in Nevada someone in California or somewhere more farther can be looking at it too. I find that so interesting. Even though there's two complete strangers looking at the moon they have something in common, the moon. We all look at the moon at least every night and don't notice that a friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, sibling etc. that we have yet to meet can be looking at the same moon, if that makes sense. The moon in some ways bring people together.

The moon can also symbolize how we should live our life's; We should shine bright even in the darkness time. It never just stops shinning because it's being consumed by the darkness, the darker it gets the brighter it shines. The moon can be many things and beautiful is one of them.

Full Moon

I was walking down the street around five o'clock and the moon was already out, the sky was light blue with barely any clouds in sight. The moon looked so faint. I was surprised that the moon was out so early. Later that night I stepped outside again and there were many stars in the sky but their light was so dim that I had to squint my eyes to see them all. I could see more than half the moon but it was so big and bright that when I looked away I could still see it from the corner of my eye. There was a plane below the moon and I was wondering if anyone on that plane was mesmerized by the beauty of the moon as I was.

When I was leaving Walmart I saw that the yellow big moon was almost full and it was just above the mountains. The sky was pink with light blue and some clouds even looked grey. I was looking north (I think) and the sky and clouds were pink and orange and on the opposite side the sky was light blue. Around six o'clock the sky started turning purple and different shades of blue.

October 8th was the day, the full moon.  The big full moon was bright yellow and was high in the sky. The sky was dark blue and the night was silent. I could hear crickets somewhere near me. I just sat outside  admiring the big yellow moon. I could barely focus on the stars because my eyes were too distracted on the yellow full moon.

Just my luck...

For my English project I decided to observe the tree outside my house. I started observing on September twenty two. The first couple of days it would be really windy and the leaves would flow with the wind as one. I climbed on top of my trash cans to get a better look at the high branches and leaves. At least every single leaf had turned brown, all rusty and so fragile. The branches on the other hand weren't so fragile, and all the little bugs that used to live on that tree had disappeared. The tree bark had different shades of brown, one part would be light brown and then it would transition to a dull brown and then a very dark brown. The tree trunk had grown so big that it made a crack on the sidewalk and lifted it. Each day more and more leaves and twigs would fall off. The leaves and twigs were one with the wind because when the wind was strong they would follow the same movement and when there was no wind it was so still.

When I would get home from school  I would put my backpack down and go look at the tree and I would notice the ground was filled with  large amounts of twigs like the tree was shedding and I could only see some patches of green grass.

September 29th was just full of luck for me... I was walking into my parking lot and I noticed something different, the tall tree was missing. I ran to where the tree used to stand and I could not believe it, they cut down the tree. This kind of thing could only happen to me. I was so disappointed. There was a truck in the parking lot where all the leaves and dead branches laid. The tree trunk was cut into about 12 pieces but the base of the tree was still attached to the ground.

I had to change my subject for my observation. I picked the moon. It was October 1st when I started observing the moon. I went outside and it was so peaceful, I could hear the wind blowing in my ears. It was silent. The moon was almost a semi-circle that night, it was so bright and only a few stars surrounded it. Earlier that night there were big black grayish clouds covering most of the sky and it just made it shine brighter.
